I've just learned how to can this summer, of course, I have only canned pickles, relishes, tomatoes and such. I cannot find a pressure cooker! I've looked at Target, WalMart...everywhere! I don't want to buy an older one because I'm scared of the gasket not being reliable. Also, what size are they? Are there any that are as big as my canning pot? What should I look for in a PC, and how much should I expect to pay?

Re: Baby Canner...where are the pressure cookers??
Thu, August 13, 2009 - 2:02 PMThere are cheap ones at WalMart. I found one at a kitchen (cookware) store. I am also new to pressure canning and wanted one with the pressure dial so I can be sure I'm doing it right. I got one that holds 7 quart jars, so its roughly the same size as my water bath canner. When I closed it up I could feel the gasket seal. There's also a pop up thingy so you know the seal is good and the pot is pressurizing.
You can also find them on Amazon.com -

Thu, August 13, 2009 - 3:09 PMI'd call around to stores that sell housewares. A lot of the feed stores around here carry canning supplies. I've seen some at Orscheln and at AgMart. Many stores that don't ordinarily have them stock these things in the summer. -
